“ I can’t tell if that is the sun rising in the east…..or the light at the end of the bar”

SEATTLE, WA - Summer is here….really….it will be….guaranteed! Your home for the blues in Seattle is firing up the grill and making sure that you got all the music you can handle. With 25 nights of music in June, Highway 99 Blues Club, voted 4 times as the Best Blues club in Washington state, will have what you need when it comes to the blues.

Also worth mentioning is the opening of our BBQ Shack on the weekends. Located right above our front door, the shack is open from 11am until 3pm Saturday – Sunday. Grab some food for the road, or head across the street to the waterfront park with ribs, burgers and other BBQ treats.

Some of the highlights of June’s musical offerings: June 10 marks the return of one of the fastest rising stars on the national blues scene; JOHN NEMETH hits the highway to celebrate the release of his brand new CD “Name the Day” with a special THURSDAY NIGHT show.

Every Monday night the Highway 99 Dance Band provides the music for West Coast swing dancing. For one night only, on June 11, an amazing show is happening for the dancers and fans of 30’s and 40’s blues music. Internationally acclaimed dancers JORDAN FRISBEE and TATIANA MOLLMAN both to be considered as superstars of West Coast Swing dancing will be dancing and doing demonstrations that night. 12 time US Open champions, they will thrill the crowd with their skills. The music will be live with the Highway 99 Dance band all night long.

June 18 brings back one of our favorite acts; ROCKIN’ JAKE from New Orleans. One of the hottest bands out of the Big Easy, Jake’s hybrid sound of New Orleans 2 nd line, swamp funk, blues and zydeco will keep the hot sauce ( ask for Jake’s own brand “Badmouth”) flowing all night. 5 time winner for best harmonica in Off Beat magazine, Jake’s shows are a non-stop party.

One of Seattle’s favorite bands BECKI SUE AND HER BIG ROCKIN’ DADDIES rumble back in to the joint with their brand new CD for all their fans. Their brand of rockin’ blues is a crowd favorite and Becki and the boys will be lookin’ to tear the joint apart on June 19.

Of course the last Friday of the month belongs to the legendary harp master LEE OSKAR and friends. These shows have become one of our most popular and Lee is always pulling out new suprises, guest artists and more as he explores his fusion of Latin and soul music. As a founding member of the bands WAR and The LOW RIDER BAND, Lee is an internationally known talent; one night on June 25.

Just added is the return of one of the master’s of the 88’s ; KENNY “BLUES BOSS” WAYNE from Vancouver BC. Hailed as one of the artists who is bringing back the piano to the front ranks of the blues, the Blues Boss has won numerous JUNO (Canadian grammy) awards in his career and continues to tour internationally. His New Orleans’ boogie-woogie brand of the blues is a show stopper and he has been playing shows at the club for 6 years. One night on June 26.

As always, there are just too many good shows to mention here; but; we have some new monthly artists that we want to make special mention of. First is the MICHAEL POWERS GROUP. The well loved and highly regarded jazz and blues guitarist brings his band in to Highway 99 for the first time on Thursday, June 17. Another new addition to the monthly schedule is LISA AND THE PO’K CHOPS. This funk and soul outfit is fronted by the gospel trained Lisa and digs deep into a nice bag of music on June 16.

Other shows coming this month; June 4THE RANDY OXFORD BAND; June 5 it’s DOCTORFUNK; JUNE 12 from Portland, KOLVANE; and check out the SAM MARSHALL TRIO, TWO SHEDS JACKSON, THE BLUES VAULT WITH KPLU’S JOHN KESSLER each Tuesday; the JAMES HOWARD BAND, HOT ROD’S BLUES REVUE and our monthly Louisiana house party with Seattle’s Hot Zydeco Connection.
