“You turned my world upside down when you came rollin’ along…”
SEATTLE, WA - well, we did it …..JULY 4 TH WAS OUR 5 TH ANNIVERSARY…!!! We made it….Five years in the live music business is not easy to do….and while we feel thankful to have lasted this long….we still have a ways to go. A big thank you to all of you who have supported Highway 99 Blues Club…we sincerely appreciate your support and hope to keep bringing the blues to Seattle for a long time.
We have lots of great shows lined up for August and have some of our favorites hittin’ the highway again. Rockin’ Jake and Leroy Thomas from New Orleans; Larry McCray from Michigan, the Twisters from Vancouver and making his 2 nd stop with us the legendary blues guitarist, Duke Robillard.
The month gets off to a busy start with ROCKIN’ JAKE all the way from New Orleans. A 5-time winner of the best harp in Nawlins’, Jake’s original sound is a hybrid of 2 nd line, swamp funk, blues and zydeco. Check him out Friday, August 7.
The Creole Cowboy, LEROY THOMAS AND THE ZYDECO ROADRUNNERS will hit the stage on August 14. Leroy has played the club more than any New Orleans zydeco act. His mix of traditional Zydeco and R & B makes sure the dance floor is packed all night.
Former Gibson blues guitarist of the year LARRY MCCRAY makes his 2 nd visit on August 21. Influenced by the 3 Kings, and known for his blistering blues-rock guitar and warm soulful vocals, McCray is one of the rising stars of the blues.
August 22 will be barn burner for sure. One of our favorite local acts BECKI SUE AND HER BIG ROCKIN’ DADDIES will get to jumpin’ and rockin’ the blues and they have invited one of Vancouver’s best blues acts THE TWISTERS to join the party. The Twisters bring their take of modern blues with their feet planted in the roots and traditions of jump and west coast blues.
August 28 marks the return of DUKE ROBILLARD . The founder of the legendary jump blues band ROOMFUL OF BLUES, Robillard is steeped in the blues, jazz and R & B. 5-time BMA guitarist of the year and grammy nominated, he has recorded with the likes of Dylan, Ruth Brown, Pinetop Perkins and Ronnie Earl.
Other acts worth marking on your calendar; THE ROBBIE LAWS BIGGER BLUES BAND on August 1. The hall of fame guitarist and blues singer brings the big 7 piece band back for a night of vintage R & B and swingin’ blues. ALICE STUART AND THE FORMERLY’S will be still crazy with the blues on August 15 along with their special guest RAVINWOLF .
Legendary harp master LEE OSKAR and friends move their monthly show to Saturday, August 29 this month. A Founding member of WAR and THE LOW RIDER BAND, these shows are a not to miss event. A pioneer of the fusion of Latin and soul music, Lee has a trademark sound and style that sets him apart from all others.
Other notable shows; DOCTORFUNK , PURTY MOUTH’S MONTHLY VARIETY SHOW , SATELLITE 4 and BILL BROWN AND THE KINGBEES, JOHN “SCOOCH” CUGNO’S DELTA 88 REVIVAL , HOT ROD’S RHYTHM AND SOUL REVUE, SONIC FUNK ORCHESTRA and THE JAMES HOWARD BAND .
