For Immediate Release:

"…you gotta take care of business if you got a good thing workin"

Seattle, WA - All this talk about global warming has us thinking about the blues….hot, steamy, lowdown and smokin' blues….the kind of music that warms the soul and stirs the heart….and maybe takes us away from the rest of the world for a night. Highway 99 Blues Club is hitting spring in full stride….some brand new acts, some of our favorites and plenty of food and drink to keep you feeling the pull of the highway…

For the first weekend in May, KEVIN SELFE & THE TORNADOE'S are coming back. From Portland by way of Virginia, Kevin is a guitar slinger with Chicago and Texas in his soul. Great talent, already garnering numerous CBA nominations for best of…new band and guitar player; May 2. THE TYPE A! BAND comes barreling back to the club on May 3. 15 pieces strong, full of soul, funk and R & B and a non-stop dance party to boot. Don't cha miss this one..!

Thursday, May 8 brings back "Yo fatha of fun" the one and only CHUBBY CARRIER & THE BAYOU SWAMP BAND. They tore the joint down last summer…plenty of hot sauce covered zydeco and a big ol' pot of gumbo filled with R & B. "Ain't no party like a Chubby Party".

May 10 brings back one of our regulars THE ROBBIE LAWS BIGGER BLUES BAND. This 7 piece band fronted by Portland's Laws on guitar and vocals offers up swingin' blues, and vintage R & B. 3 horns, B-3 and rock solid rhythm section anchor this band.

Keeping our promise to bring in new national acts, Thursday, May 15 finds SMOKIN JOE KUBEK & BNOIS KING on their first visit to the club. Potent, undiluted 100 proof Texas blues honed to a razors edge. Touring behind their new CD, these veterans bring years of experience and a great show to Highway 99.

May 16 DELTA MOON will make their club debut. Coming from Atlanta, Georgia, this band is a former winner of the IBC, multiple national and international tours, and brings the Delta to the Northwest with their double slide guitar sound. A deep, stirring take on the blues. Opening the show for DELTA MOON will be the DIESEL TRUKKERS. Based out of Silverdale, the Trukkers feature a southern blues rock sound and have been working all over the Northwest. May 17 finds KOLVANE - formerly the ROSE CITY KINGS making one of their regular stops at Highway 99. Hard charging roots based blues, this band will be celebrating the release of the brand new CD.

May 23 finds another one of our recent discoveries; THE KELLY RICHEY BAND. Based out of Ohio, Richey's guitar skills have been compared to Stevie…yes, that one. Explosive guitar skills combined with soulful vocals, Richey's shows are becoming known for her amazing technical skills as well as her command of the blues.

And finally, returning to his once a month shows, legendary harp master LEE OSKAR AND FRIENDS will be back on May 30. Lee has been touring overseas, so we had to keep the stage warm while he was gone. These monthly shows are a chance to see the talents of one of the pioneer's of the fusion between latin and soul music. His longtime association with the band WAR and now with the Low Rider band has made Lee an international talent. Always a great show, with special surprise guests, you won't want to miss his return.

Other acts hittin' the highway this month; SON JACK JR., with his foot-stomping authentic Delta Blues. BRIAN NOVA'S FELONIUS FUNK ORCHESTRA starts their residency at the club. Longtime veteran guitarist Nova, brings his other side to the club with his funky, horn driven band. Well known as a jazz guitarist, this is a side to Brian that many don't get to see; May 22 for the first time. LITTLE BILL AND THE BLUENOTES, DUDLEY TAFT BLUES OVERKILL, ROBIN MOXEY, AUTHOR UNKNOWN, JOHN STEPHAN BAND to name a few more will all be strutting their stuff at Highway 99 this month as well.
