“Now just have patience and be strong; cause it won’t be long until your fool comes home”

SEATTLE, WA -  No fools allowed…..only fans of the blues.  Spring has sprung and there is hope in the air.  At Highway 99 Blues Club, the award winning home of the blues in Seattle, spring just means more great music, new menu items and always a reason to hit the highway.

April promises to be one of the very funkiest months we have ever had.  We hear all the time from our customers that soul music, R & B and the funky stuff makes them happy.  We have always brought this type of music to the club and April is gonna be funkalicious.  The Type A! Band, DoctorfunK, Soul Provider, the Sonic Funk Orchestra, Kissing Potion, The Felonius Funk Collective and from Eugene, Oregon, The Essentials, all visit this month.

April gets moving right away with KIM FIELD AND THE MIGHTY TITANS OF TONE on April 3.  Longtime Seattle harp master Field leads his band through some tight vintage R & B and blues.  April 4 starts your funkfest with the TYPE A! BAND.  These kids can throw it down and the party always gets started when they hit the stage.  Classic soul, funk and blues come from this  15 piece band.

The 12 piece SONIC FUNK ORCHESTRA has taken up a residency at the club with their once a month shows on the 2nd Thursday of each month.  A great 70’s and 80’s dance band, this is a chance to show your stuff on the dance floor on April 9NICK VIGARINO’S MEANTOWN BLUES brings their brand of Delta slop-jar funk and blues to the club on April 10.  The next night one of the club’s most popular bands, the 10 piece strong DOCTORFUNK will hit you with some sweet soul music on April 11.

Returning to the club is one of our friends from the East side of the state; SAMMY EUBANKS and his band with very special guest and Washington Blues Society Hall of Famer, MARK WHITMAN, will bring the blues on April 17.  Eubanks has won just about every blues award in Spokane for best guitar, singer, band and so on.

April 18 brings the club debut of SOUL PROVIDER.  This 12 piece band rolls out the soul music from the 60’s and 70’s.  Highly skilled players, multiple vocalists and a great show make this a surefire good time.

Maybe you have noticed that we have been trying to bring more double bills to the club.  This is a chance for people to see and hear some of our great local bands.  This month on April 24, we bring in two high octane bands who are gonna do their best to blow the roof off the joint.  The DUDLEY TAFT BLUES OVERKILL and THE BILL MATTOCKS BAND will trade sets all night and bring you some Texas guitar driven blues from Dudley and the boys, and some Chicago influenced classic blues rock from the Mattocks Band.  Featuring Bill Mattocks on harp and vocals, this show will keep the energy flowing all night.

Closing out our weekends in April on the 25th, will be THE ESSENTIALS, a 10 piece soul and funk band from Eugene, Oregon.  These kids met at the University of Oregon and have put together a tight, focused band.  They have been playing the club for the last 3 years and their shows get better every time.

A couple of other shows to make note of;  April 29 it is THE BOUCHARDS; bringing their classic Americana and retro country sound to our regular Wednesday roots music night.  On April 30, you will have a chance to travel back in time…at least a little ways.  THE SWINGIN’ 60’S – a celebration of the music of SINATRA, MARTIN and DARIN featuring JOEY JEWELL and an 11 piece band.  This is part of the same group that performs the very popular SINATRA AT THE SANDS show around town.  We couldn’t resist doing the Vegas thing…and getting a little crazy.

Don’t forget about our STORMY MONDAY night shows featuring live music dance lessons and blues music from the 20’s – 40’s.  Hosted by local dance instructors Kevin and Lizzy, this is a chance to have fun, learn some new steps and hear great music by Blue Skies.

We are also bringing back THE FELONIUS FUNK ORKESTRA.  We lost them for a bit, but they are back and will be bringing their mix of funk, blues and latin soul to the club.  The band features an array of top musicians from different bands plus vocalists Stephanie Porter and John Oliver.  April 2 for this show.

Don’t forget about our other mid-week shows; ZOE MUTH AND THE LOST HIGH ROLLERS, KISSING POTION, SATELLITE 4, JOHN “SCOOCH” CUGNO’S DELTA 88 REVIVAL and THE JAMES HOWARD BAND.
