“ You’ve  got to dig it to DIG it, you DIG ?” (t.monk)

SEATTLE, WA – We had to turn to Thelonius Monk to set the mood for the month of March.  This is the month for you to dig what we are doing.  We are bringing some exciting shows to the club this month and we know there is something for everyone to choose from.  These are rough times for everyone and we know how much having a chance to hear good music, eat some great food and have a place to hang out with your friend’s means to us all.  Highway 99 Blues Club is trying to do its part to make things just a little bit better.

We know you are going to go crazy this month….why?  Because we have some shows that are really gonna be something.  In fact, we don’t even know where to begin – we have eight national touring acts this month, plus some of our regular locals.  You better buy a bigger calendar..!

Starting the month off will be NEARLY DANFriday, March 6 marks the return of this tribute to the music of STEELY DAN.  14 musicians and singers come together to pursue their passion of this great band’s music.  You will not believe how good they are.  One of the fastest rising stars in the blues world hits the highway on March 7JOHN NEMETH, vocalist and harpist par excellence and a recent addition to the famous BLIND PIG LABEL returns to the club hot on the heels of his latest CD which is hanging around the top of the blues charts.  A skillful blend of retro and modern blues mixed with bar walkin’ showmanship.

A special Thursday night show marks the 3rd visit from SMOKIN’ JOE KUBEK AND BNOIS KING. March 12 is the date for these touring veterans from Texas to throw down some blues.  Kubek is regarded as one of the finest guitar slingers today and the smooth soulful vocals of King make for a heady mix of the blues.

Don’t be afraid of Friday, March 13th.  We’ve got you covered.  Who else but EDDIE “THE DEVIL BOY” TURNER should play this night? Returning again after a packed house this summer, Turner is the former band mate of OTIS TAYLOR. Influenced by Chicago blues, jazz and R & B. Turner’s shows take the audience on a unique musical journey.

Not to be outdone for ST. PATRICKS DAY, the MALONEY BROTHERS have pulled out a “triple treat” for you on March 14.  Check out this line-up; fresh from the IBC contest in Memphis,

SON JACK JR and MICHAEL “EL DIABLO” WILDE will crank up the delta hothouse full of blues to open the evening.  Then, HANDFUL OF LUVIN’  hits the stage.  Voted one of the best live bands in Seattle, their nitro-fueled mix of blues rock, Celtic riffs and classical compositions will have the joint jumpin’.  You want more? Closing out the evening will be the ROBIN MOXEY BAND.  This LA transplant brings his take of roots blues and Americana to new places.  Amazing showman, tons of guitar chops and the vocal skills to tilt you back in your chair.

Our special Sunday ZYDECO SHOWS continue with DIKKI DU AND THE ZYDECO KREWE on      March 15.  Direct from Louisiana, from the esteemed Carrier family, comes Dikki Du.  Adding some funk and originality to their Zydeco gumbo, this band gets to foot stompin’ early so bring yer dancing shoes.

Still want more? For two big nights, for the first time in a club, comes TONY COLEMAN AND ALL THE KINGS MEN on March 20 and 21. COLEMAN is the current drummer for BB KING’s band and has been for over 10 years.  With him will be both former and current members of BB’s band.  RUSSELL JACKSON, STANLEY ABERNATHY, JAMES BOLDEN and MELVIN JACKSON.  All of them have their own CD’s and these two nights will be a full blown bag of blues, funk and soul.  Tony has played the club many times on his breaks from BB’s band, but this promises to be something very special.

Please no more.  Are you kidding? Bringing this March madness to a close will be two more national acts returning to the club once again.  First up on March 27 will be the DEBBIE DAVIES BAND.  A 2008 BMA nominee, and formerly with both ALBERT COLLINS AND MAGGIE MAYALL, Davies is a seductive, soulful guitarist with all the chops to burn the blues.  Steeped in the blues and touched by the Delta, Davies is an engaging performer and TELARC recording artist.

And finally….all the way from AUSTRALIA comes one of the most original acts you can see.  HARPER makes his return on March 28.  A truly compelling performer of world blues, Harper mixes his skills on the harp and the didgeridoo showing influences of Muddy, Sonny Boy and Little Walter.  International tours, said to posses the “deep soul of Motown”, Harper is a show not to be missed.

And not wanting to forget about our local flavor; be sure and check out SATELLITE 4, JAMES HOWARD BAND, SWAMP SOUL, PURTY MOUTH’S MONTHLY VARIETY SHOW, JOHN “SCOOCH” CUGNO’S DELTA 88 REVIVIAL and THE ONCE A MONTH DANCE PARTY with the SONIC FUNK ORCHESTRA.
