Seattle, WA...Well we would be remiss if we didn't remind you that HIGHWAY
99 BLUES CLUB, the award winning blues club, celebrated its 4th Anniversary
this past July 4th. With all the shows we're having, we must have
overlooked this monumental event. Four years in the live music business is
a rare thing; to all of you who have hit the highway....thanks.
We told you at the start of the summer that we were gonna put our foot down
on the gas pedal and not let up...well, come September, you will have no
excuses but to bring yourself down to the nightclub.
Kicking things into high gear will be DUKE ROBIILARD http://www.dukerobillard.com/ and his band on September 3. A 5-time BMA
best blues guitarist winner, grammy nominee and the founder of Roomful of
Blues, Duke has recorded with the likes of Dylan, Ruth Brown, Pinetop
Perkins and others. A masterful guitarist steeped in the blues, this will
be his first visit to Highway 99.
The very next night on September 4, all the way from Memphis, comes DELTA
HIGHWAY http://memphissound.com/memphis-bands/delta-highway/index.html .
2006 IBC winners, this band takes their brand of contemporary blues mixed
with the guitar sounds of Muddy Waters, RL Burnside adds some harp and
brings the blues from Texas to Seattle for the first time. Local Delta
Blues artist SON JACK JR http://sonjackjr.com/default.aspx will open the
show.
Proving that we ain't kidding about bringing the best blues to town that we
can get, September 5 brings SONNY RHODES http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=35224391 to town. A true blues disciple, one of the few lap steel blues
guitarists around, and an 11-time BMA nominee who has played with Freddie
King, Albert Collins and others. Deep, Delta-based blues and a versatile
showman as well.
They tore the joint down last year so we are bringing them back again...for
two nights!
LYDIA PENSE and COLD BLOOD http://www.coldblood.biz/pages/home.html bring the Bay area funk to
Highway 99 on September 12 & 13. The East Bay's Queen of Soul, this funky
band's hybrid of soul and San Francisco rock still shakes you down to the
bone. This band was one of the pioneers of the East Bay sound combining
funk, soul and blues. Don'tcha miss out!
Our very popular ZYDECO SUNDAYS continue with one of the founders of the
zydeco scene in San Francisco MOTORDUDE ZYDECO http://www.associatedentertainment.com/aec/Music/World-music/Motordude-Zydeco . They will be bringing their high energy, R & B influenced Zydeco sound
to the club on Sunday, September 14. Music starts at 6:30pm.
You say you love Chicago style blues? Well so do we. One of our favorites
is coming back; STUDEBAKER JOHN and THE HAWKS http://www.studebakerjohn.com/ bring the windy city blues to Seattle. A
master slide guitarist and blues harp talent, John's steamy, smokin' blues
brings the raw energy and grit of the classic bluesmen of years gone by.
Friday night September 19 at 9pm.
MARK THIS DATE ! SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 at 6pm will bring together a
remarkable line-up on highly acclaimed blues talent for the DELTA ROADHOUSE
SHOWCASE. It is not often that a line-up like this comes together for one
evening. This show features ALICE STUART http://www.alicestuart.com/ ,
ORVILLE JOHNSON http://www.orvillejohnson.com/ , from Portland, TERRY ROBB http://www.terryrobb.com/ , JD HOBSON http://www.jdhobson.com/home.html and harpist/3 octave vocalist and former frontman for ROOMFUL OF BLUES, MARK
DUFRESNE http://www.hohnerusa.com/index.php?1681 . Here is a chance to
see and hear five great musicians alone and paired up with some amazing
talent.
Rounding off the month will be the return of one of the hottest bands on the
West Coast, from Portland, THE INSOMNIACS http://www.myspace.com/insomniacsblues . These guys have been touring
like crazy, got signed to Delta Groove Records, and have been bringing their
West Coast version of the blues, swing and vintage R & B to audiences
everywhere. Always a fun time with great music. September 27 at 9pm.
