you back. . . "
Seattle, WA - WOW. . . August already. . . where is the summer going. . . . ? At
Highway 99 Blues Club, the summer is headed for some serious blues, BBQ and
good times. We tried to get some more weekends for August, but we couldn't
make the deal. So start making your plans to hit the highway for some high
octane, down to the crossroads music.
Don't forget about our award winning Blue Monday Jam. . . . now our BLUE SUNDAY
JAM. . . begins every Sunday at 3pm. Grab your harp and sit in with the band.
Special BBQ menu every Sunday and the house band is led by Scotty Harris and
Justin Kausal-Hayes.
This month has to be one of the most packed months of national acts that we
have ever offered. There is a lot of information as always on our web site
at www. highwayninetynine.com .
The month gets to kickin' with the first visit from EDDIE "DEVIL BOY" TURNER http://www.eddiedevilboy.com/ . A long time member of Otis Taylor's band,
Turner mixes the voodoo blues ala Hendrix with classic blues grooves.
Strong Chicago influences make this a unique blend of music.August 1 at
9pm.
Back again is one of our favorite road dogs. . . JASON RICCI AND NEW BLOOD http://www.jasonricci.com/ . Show stopping performer; leaves nothing out
of his shows. . . excellent harp and vocals with a balanced attack of blues,
funk and virtuosity at 9pm on August 2.
Stopping in for the first time from New York City will be the CHRIS BERGSON
BAND http://www.chrisbergson.com/home/ . A Gibson guitar artist, Bergson
mixes East coast R & B with a rootsy Memphis sound. Strong following on the
circuit back East, he will hit Seattle on August 9.
What else can we say? How about she's back? JANIVA MAGNESS http://www.janivamagness.com/ is coming again for a special Sunday show
on August 10. A two time BMA winner for contemporary female artist of the
year, a recent member of a blues tour to Iraq for the troops and a recent
addition to the legendary Alligator record label, Janiva's shows deliver
blues, soul and jazz with show stopping skills. Showtime 7pm.
Take a breath and see what else we have in store.
August 16 finds the
return of the CRAIG CAFFALL BAND http://www.craigcaffall.com/ . Craig is
well known as MARIA MULDUAR'S guitarist. But he is a powerful singer,
songwriter and guitar player with non-stop high energy blues with rock
roots.
August 17 in another of our special Sunday shows, finds the amazing band
NEARLY DAN http://www.nearlydan.com/ taking the stage. A 12 piece band
that brings the incredible sounds of STEELY DAN to life, this band had been
praised for its musical prowess and arranging of the well known music of
Steely Dan. They play to sold out rooms on their rare public performances.
August 22 finds the first visit of MINGO FISHTRAP http://www.mingofishtrap.com/ from Austin, Texas. This super funky band
brings gut bucket nawlin's funk and Oakland soul music together while
everyone hits the dance floor. Influenced by the horn bands of the past,
Mingo brings a contemporary sound all their own. Veterans of the famous R & B cruises, this is a special treat. And as if that was not enough,
Seattle's own DOCTORFUNK http://www.doctorfunk.com/ digs them so much,
they are going to open the show with a full set of their own brand of soul
music.
August 23 brings back THE TONY COLEMAN BAND http://www.tonycolemanmusic.com/ . Tony has been BB KING'S drummer for
over 10 years and just recently went back out on the road with the King. He
had a short break and wanted to party with his friends in Seattle. A super
cool showman, funky drummer and soulful singer, TC brings all the juice to
his shows.
Sunday, August 24 brings back SMOKIN' JOE KUBEK AND BNOIS KING http://www.smokinjoekubek.com/ . 100% Texas blues honed to a razors edge.
They blew us away last May, the road brings em' back again. Longtime
veterans of the road and the blues. 7 pm showtime.
Friday, August 29 brings the monthly installment of LEE OSKAR AND FRIENDS http://www.leeoskar.com/ . These shows just keep getting better and
bigger. A nice mix of local musicians and some surprise guests. Legendary
harp player and founder of the Low Rider Band and WAR, Oskar is a rare treat
each month at the club.
And finally. . . . whew. . . . riding the rails up from Portland comes the JOE
MCMURRIAN QUARTET http://www.joemcmurrian.com/ featuring drummer Jimi
Bott. Bott who was with Rod Piazza and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, anchors
